Milwaukee bus driver helps 2 lost children find way home

A Wisconsin bus driver helped two young children who were lost and walking down a Milwaukee street last month find their way home.

Milwaukee County Transit System officials said Jeannie Mitchell was driving her usual route on Oct. 12 in Milwaukee when she noticed the children walking alone down the street. Mitchell stopped the bus, opened the door and asked the children if they were lost.

"I stopped and said, you know, 'These children are by themselves.' So I decided to pull over and ask the kids where they were going and who were they with," Mitchell told WITI.
Mitchell got off the bus, asked the children — a 1-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl — more questions and realized they were lost. She contacted her dispatcher, who called police.
A Milwaukee police officer helped the children contact their mother. They said they walked away from their babysitter, and were trying to go to a relative’s house but got lost, WITI reported.

“If the parent hadn't showed up, I would still be thinking 'What happened to those children?’” Mitchell told WITI. “But once the police showed up and did their part, I felt a lot better.”
