Officials said in a statement that a number of new buses burned in the fire:
"At 2:21 in the afternoon of Wednesday, August 24, Central Pierce Fire was dispatched to the corner of 12th Street NW and West Stewart – the site of Puyallup School District's Bus Maintenance Facility. While the cause of the fire is not yet certain, the damage is. Over 20 brand new school buses were housed in this facility. These new buses were purchased to make the fleet more efficient and provide transportation services to students in Puyallup schools."
Police said there were explosions related to the fire and a building nearby burned.
