High school guidance counselor arrested on rape, child porn solicitation charges

A counselor at a Maryland high school is facing rape and child porn solicitation charges, authorities announced last week.

According to the Wicomico State Attorney's Office, 32-year-old Allen Edward Mitchell, a guidance counselor at James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, was arrested Friday on 15 charges, including second-degree rape, soliciting child pornography, fourth-degree sex offenses and perverted practice.

"It is alleged that Mitchell engaged in multiple instances of misconduct with minors, to include the criminal use of social media applications," the news release said.

Mitchell, of Fruitland, will be "held without bond due to the serious nature of the allegations," the release said.

The Wicomico County school district said it has placed Mitchell on administrative leave and is "working in full cooperation" with investigators, the Delmarva Daily Times reported.
