A Florida man is recovering after deputies said he severed his left hand after lighting a firework inside a vehicle.
Officials in Deltona responded Sunday morning to calls regarding a loud explosion being heard in the area.
When deputies arrived on scene, they observed a blue pickup truck parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights on and a shattered front windshield.
Deputies found a victim lying on the ground with a severed left hand that was bleeding profusely, according to a report. A responding deputy applied a tourniquet before medics were able to transport the victim to an area hospital.
Another person on scene told deputies that a cigarette ignited the firework inside the vehicle.
Deputies said there was no sign of foul play or anything criminal in nature.
The victim remains in stable condition, according to an incident report.
