FedEx driver shot, alleged robber killed after gunfight

An armed robbery in Philadelphia left the alleged robber dead and the FedEx driver whose truck the man tried to rob with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The gunfight happened in the Lawndale section of the city, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Police said the delivery driver was held up by the armed robber as the driver approached a home to make a delivery. The robber, according to police, had taken items from the FedEx truck.

The robber shot the driver, who then returned fire.

Despite his injuries, the alleged robber was able to leave the scene with several stolen items, police told WCAU.

The FedEx driver drove away from the scene of the shooting and was later found by police who took him to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Other police found a man, who they believe was the alleged robber, with several gunshot wounds in an alley, WPVI reported. The man, according to police, had packages that had been stolen from the truck. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

FedEx will not comment on whether the company allows employees to be armed while on the job, despite requests from WPVIWCAU and the Inquirer.

A company spokesperson said they are aware of the incident and that the company is cooperating with the authorities, WPVI reported.
