While owls aren't that unusual in Burlington County, a call for an "owl on the porch is."

When officers with the Bordentown Township Animal Control unit responded to the call Friday morning, they found a baby great horned owl perched on a porch, clearly away from its nest in a nearby tree with neither parent in sight.

So, the officers did what any conscientious wildlife rescue organization would do after locating the empty nest. They built the baby a new nest, put it in an adjacent tree and hoped that the parents would return.

The plan is to monitor the bird and, if the parents don't return, they'll take the baby to a wildlife center for care until they can release it.
