Arizona care facility employee accused of raping 85-year-old woman

An Arizona man who worked at an adult care facility is accused of raping an 85-year-old woman with dementia, authorities said.

Manuel Corral, 58, was arrested and charged with six counts of sexual assault, kidnapping, and sexual abuse, according to Maricopa County court records.

According to a police report, the victim's son was alerted by the staff at Heritage Village in Mesa of the woman's allegation, KPNX reported. The woman said Corral came into her room Friday night and raped her, according to KTVK.

According to court documents, a medical exam revealed injuries consistent with what the woman told detectives, the television station reported.

Investigators said staff at the facility confirmed that Corral was the only man assigned to the woman's unit. He reportedly was the overnight caregiver on the night in question, KNXV reported.

In a statement Tuesday, officials at Heritage Village said, “We are deeply saddened regarding the incident of assault at our community. We are working in full cooperation with law enforcement and all governing agencies, and making every effort to restore comfort and peace of mind to our residents, families and staff.”

Corral has worked at Heritage Village since June 2019, KPNX reported. Corral has been a suspect in three separate sexual assault investigations at different adult care facilities in Mesa, the television station reported.

A judge set a secured appearance bond of $75,000 for Corral, KTVK reported.
