Xenia pastor at White House today to discuss opioid crisis

A Xenia pastor will be among those at the White House today to discuss the nation’s opioid epidemic.

Pastor Greg Delaney will be among a group of about 200 people from around the country who have dealt with the crisis. He’ll attend a panel with First Lady Melania Trump, White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen are also scheduled to attend the summit.

The summit follows a directive by President Donald Trump last October tasking his entire administration with fighting the opioid crisis, including by declaring it a nationwide public health emergency.

According to his profile on LinkedIn, Delaney is the pastor of Freedom Church, a recovery ministry that serves the needs of those facing addictions. He has served as the faith coordinator for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Heroin Unit, speaking to church communities about how to help address the opioid epidemic.

The summit will include panels on prevention and treatment as well as law enforcement and interdiction.
