Monroe City Council unanimously voted to rename a landmark piece of property in honor of its bicentennial.
At the end of Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Robert Routson made a motion to rename the former Americana Amusement Park to Bicentennial Park.
The city closed on its land swap acquisition of the former amusement park on Nov. 7 and will be using it as a park and for other city uses that will include a portion of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail bike path.
With Americana Amusement Park and LeSourdsville Lake gone, Routson said that Bicentennial Park would be a more appropriate name. The city celebrated its bicentennial this past summer.
Council members Anna Hale and Dan Clark also expressed their support of Routson’s proposal to change the name of the property.
