The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said Yousef Hamed, 30, was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping, WDSU reported.
Capt. Jason Rivarde, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said the 43-year-old woman had requested a ride Jan. 23 from the bar. Instead of taking her home, the spokesman said, Hamed took her to his apartment in Harvey, the television station reported.
The woman was too impaired to give her consent, officials told WDSU. She reported the incident the next day.
A friend of the woman used her own cellphone to order the ride. New Orleans police were able to identify Hamed and requested his personal information from Lyft, the newspaper reported.
The ride-share company provided the information Jan. 30, and New Orleans police contacted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office after determining the rape had occurred at Hamed’s residence, Rivarde told the newspaper.
"It goes to show you, there are some sick people in this world," Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto told the Times-Picayune on Thursday.
