Students’ ‘incredible’ work honored at art show

A portrait drawn by a Franklin High School sophomore was voted the Best of Show of the second annual Art Central Foundation student art show.

Callie Imundo was awarded the top prize. Her instructor is Margie Homan.

Sue Wittman, director of the Art Central Foundation, said this was the second year awards were presented to the more than 100 student artists who created their work during the eight weeks of workshops in June and July. Also, Wittman noted, six art pieces were sold and only two were purchased by family members.

She called the wide variety of art from the seven area school districts “incredible” and she credited the students and the instructors with the work. Wittman said art teachers typically work alone in their schools, but when they work together and are able to share ideas, the end result is “elevated” pieces.

Wittman said more than 130 pieces were judged and every student had at least one art work displayed. She said the students were divided into three age categories: Youngers (third and fourth grade), Middles (fifth and sixth grade) and Olders (seventh through 12th grade).

The Best of Show was open to all students, regardless of their age, and Wittman said she “totally agreed” that Imundo’s work was the best.
