Springfield native John Legend, collaborates with country music artist

Springfield native John Legend released a new song, “Last Time I Say Sorry,” on Friday with country music artist, Kane Brown.

In January, Brown announced on Twitter that he wrote and recorded a new song with Legend. He teased fans with a 55 second preview.

“Last Time I Say Sorry” jumped to number one on iTunes, shortly after being released.

On Friday, Legend and Brown talked about their new song on Instagram Live.

Legend explained that he and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, were watching Kevin Hart’s docuseries on Netflix and started discussing what it means to say “I’m sorry.”

When Legend went into a recording session with Brown, that conversation continued and turned into a song.

Legend and Brown will perform their new song together live for the first time during the Academy of Country Music Awards, also known as ACM Awards, on Sunday starting at 8 p.m.

The two-hour special airing on CBS will feature at-home performances, intimate conversations and past clips from the award show, according to ACM Awards’ website.

The ACM Awards will be broadcasted on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Legend was born and raised in Springfield where he graduated from North High School as salutatorian of his class.

In 2016, Legend helped raise $500,000 to donate to the Springfield school district to renovate the auditorium that now bears his name.

Legend, Teigen, and children, Luna and Miles, returns to Springfield to visit Legend’s family.
