Special prices for Lindenwald Night at Hamilton Joes baseball game

Friday will be Lindenwald Night at the Hamilton Joes baseball game, with residents of the city’s largest neighborhood getting discounts to watch, with youth baseball and softball players from Lindenwald getting in free.

Richard “Dick” Scheid, the event’s organizer, said this is the fifth year for Lindenwald Night at a Joes’ game. The team, part of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, and the 2016 league champion, is made up of college players wanting to play more than during just the college season.

The game starts at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets normally are $5, but this night, confirmed residents of Lindenwald will be admitted for $3 to Foundation Field, located just off Neilan Boulevard, near the corner of Knightsbridge Drive and Front Street.

Lindenwald softball/baseball and their coaches who show up wearing team shirts will be admitted free.

Door prizes will include three certificates for the Sweden Creme store, three for the Lindenwald Station restaurant, and two for the Heaven Sent coffee shop.

“It’s just another incentive to get people to come out and hang out for the night,” said Frank Downie, chairman of PROTOCOL (People Reaching Out to Others: Celebrating Our Lindenwald). “Anybody in Lindenwald can get in for $3.”

It’s also an opportunity to spend time with neighbors and make new friends.

“People who really, really get into baseball enjoy something like that,” Downie said. “These kids are good. They’re all college kids who have banded together to play during the summer, as opposed to just during the school year. It’s very intense. It’s very competitive.”

“It’s good, cheap entertainment,” Downie said. Food and refreshments will be available.

Lindenwald barber Ben Price, who also owns Sweden Creme, will throw out the first pitch.
