See 4 classically trained cellists play Metallica, and 9 other things to do this week

Here are 10 things to do in the Butler County region this week:

Apocalyptica

These four classically trained cellists started out as a Metallica tribute act in the mid-1990s. While they’ve since released several albums of original compositions, they’re returning to their headbanging roots, on four cellos, at the Taft Theatre, 317 E. 5th St., Cincinnati, on May 23 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$55. For more information, call 513-232-6220 or visit www.tafttheatre.org.

“Boeing Boeing”

This classic sex farce follows a bachelor engaged to three stewardesses, who naturally don’t know about each other. When they all come to town at the same time, he has to remember which stories he’s told to whom, with naturally comic results. See it at the Fairfield Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive, Fairfield, on May 19 and May 24-25. Performance times are 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $13-$15. For more information, call 513-867-5348 or visit www.fairfield-city.org.

“She Loves Me”

If you were a fan of the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie, “You’ve Got Mail,” here’s your chance to see the origin story. Two 1930s shop clerks who dislike each other immensely answer a “lonely hearts” ad, and are soon unwittingly exchanging love letters. See it at the Mechanic Street Playhouse, 10 S. Mechanic St., Lebanon, on May 19 and May 24-26. Performance times are 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $19. For more information, call 513-228-0932 or visit www.ltcplays.com.

Darci Lynne & Friends: Fresh Out of the Box

Darci Lynne is a ventriloquist who won Season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” at the age of 12. “Fresh Out of the Box” is her second tour. See her at the Aronoff Center for the Arts, 650 Walnut St., Cincinnati, on May 19 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $29.75-$49.75. For more information, call 513-621-2787 or visit www.cincinnatiarts.org.

The Skivvies

Back by popular demand, this male-female duo will perform adults-only, stripped-down (in more ways than one) arrangements of popular favorites and original songs. See them at the Fitton Center for the Arts, 101 S. Monument Ave., Hamilton, on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $27-$35. For more information, call 513-863-8873 or visit www.fittoncenter.org.

Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band

This acclaimed Americana singer/songwriter was discovered by Glenn Hansard, of “Once” fame. He has released 10 albums, the latest being “Fever Breaks,” out this year. See him at the Taft Theatre, 317 E. 5th St., Cincinnati, on May 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $29-$39. For more information, call 513-232-6220 or visit www.tafttheatre.org.

Thunderstruck

With the tragic death of Malcolm Young and Brian Johnson’s continued participation “iffy,” this premier tribute band devoted to recreating the live AC/DC experience may be the closest thing you’ll get to the real thing from here on out. See them at the Miami Valley Gaming Grandstand, 6000 OH-63, Lebanon, on May 23 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15-$30. For more information, visit www.thunderstruckus.com.

Memorial Day Campout

This holiday camping weekend will be full of activities, including kayaking, archery, stand-up paddleboarding, and more. Check it out at Caesar Creek State Park, 8570 East State Route 73, Waynesville, on May 24-27. For more information or to reserve a campsite, visit the event Facebook page or email caesarnaturecenter@gmail.com.

With spring and summer come romance. Take your significant other on a guided three-mile canoe trip down the Little Miami River, then back for a steak/salmon cookout and a glass of wine. Meet at Valley Vineyards, 2276 E. US 22 and 3, Morrow, on May 24 (it recurs on Thursday evenings throughout the summer) from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is $105. Reservations are required.
