Racial incidents at Miamisburg school prompt NAACP call for ‘swift action’

Racial incidents at Miamisburg Middle require "swift action," including district wide diversity training, school board members were told Thursday night.

Racial slurs and an assault against an eighth-grade female have occurred in recent months without appropriate responses from school staff, the mother of the student told the board.

"No one deserves to be disrespected while they are trying to learn -- while they are trying to live," the mother told the board.

"The last two months have been mind-boggling, to say the very least," the mother said.

Complaints of racial action against the student prompted a local NAACP to urge the board to take "swift action" to require diversity training district wide.

"Our country is polarized enough," said Derrick Foward, president, Dayton Unit NAACP.

Miamisburg board President Dale Toadvine said the issue "will be addressed."
