A man reported to Oxford police that money from a house sale stored in a pillowcase was stolen from the apartment where he was staying, according to a police report.

He was staying in an apartment in the 5200 block of College Corner Pike Jan. 8 and called police to report the theft of $11,500 he had kept inside a pillowcase in a bank envelope sealed with masking tape. The report was made Jan. 24.

The victim told police a woman he knew had stopped by at approximately 3 a.m. and asked if she could stay the night because she was too tired to drive home. The woman, who was not identified by police because she had not been charged, had asked to charge her phone and was told there was an outlet behind his bed. He said he had known the woman for years and did not think much of the request to stay.

The victim said they both woke up around 11 a.m. and he went to use the restroom. While he was inside, the woman left the apartment and he lay down for two more hours.

Later that day, he discovered the money missing and attempted to contact her but she refused to speak to him. He told the officer she replied to a text saying he could not prove she took the money.

The victim said she must have discovered the money when she went to the plug in her phone.

He was told to send the text messages in his exchange with her to the police.
