Parr nabs Clerk of the Year award

MIDDLETOWN — Clerk of Council Betsy Parr has been named Clerk of the Year through the Ohio Municipal Clerks Association.

Parr, who has worked in Middletown’s City Council office for 20 years, was nominated for the second time this year. She was last up for the statewide honor in 2008.

The award was presented during the OMCA’s spring conference in Columbus on Wednesday, April 21. All members of the clerks association submitted ballots to select a winner among the nominees.

To be qualified for the honor, clerks must have at least five years’ experience in their position, be active in their region, demonstrate a commitment to improving their skills, contribute to the improvement of his or her community, show greater than average competence in the position and be held in respect by community leaders. A clerk can only receive the award once.

Vice Mayor Anita Scott Jones, Mayor Larry Mulligan and Purchasing Agent Cindy Strayer all attended the annual conference to accept the award for Parr, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to a death in the family.
