Middletown will be applying for a federal grant for new technology and training.
Maj. Scott Reeve said the department will apply for a $26,608 Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Justice Department.
The Justice Assistance Grant is awarded annually to cities based on their crime rate and the amount of available money, Reeve said.
The grant provide agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and place justice funds where they are needed most.
If it is awarded the grant, the police department would use the funds for new technology and training, according to officials.
