Little Miami hires to fill two positions

HAMILTON TWP. — Little Miami schools has hired a former state assistant auditor to serve as an assistant treasurer and has rehired the district’s former media specialist.

Susan Murray, interim treasurer at Madison Local schools in Middletown, was hired to fill Terry Gonda’s role as assistant treasurer after Gonda takes over the treasurer’s position in July.

Murray of Dayton has worked for Fairborn City Schools and at the state auditor’s office from 2000 to 2007, according to her resume. She was hired at an annual salary of $62,018, officials said. She will begin in July.

Lisa Knodel, who worked as the district’s spokeswoman and media specialist until she was laid off in 2009, was hired as an administrative assistant to replace Helen Payne upon her retirement.

Knodel was hired at an annual salary of $47,281, which is less than Payne’s salary, said Little Miami Superintendent Dan Bennett.

Knodel’s job description will be adjusted to include duties such as updating the district’s web page, sending out news releases and communicating with the press, Bennett said.

The hirings come as the district braces for another round of layoffs, plans to reduce operations to state minimum standards and is seeking voters’ approval of a 13.95-mill property tax.

The positions were approved by the state commission that is overseeing the district. Bennett said the district was able to save money by filling the soon-to-be-vacant positions.
