Injured dog escapes Middletown fire that claims lives of other pets

The owner and neighbors are searching for a dog that was injured but escaped a house fire Thursday night in Middletown.

Middletown firefighters were called to a house at 11:12 p.m. in the 2200 block of Winton Street, according to Deputy Chief Brent Dominy. He said no cause of the fire has been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

He said the fire caused $30,000 in damages to the property and $15,000 to contents.

Little Bit, an Australian shepherd mix, black and brown in color, was injured and had burns on her face, according to police officials. She has one blue eye and one brown eye.

Police are asking those who live in the area to check under decks or sheds because Little Bit may try to find a place to stay warm.

The owner of the home said it’s unclear how many dogs, cats, lizards and snakes died in the fire. Little Bit appears to be the one pet that survived the fire, though she hadn’t been found today. The man who answered the phone said he was “too shaken up” to talk about the fire.

Anyone who sees the dog is asked to contact the owner Arleen Seals at 513-267-9794 or the Middletown police at 513-425-7700.
