Hurley tapped for Wayne local school board

WAYNESVILLE — David Hurley was sworn in Monday as the new Wayne local school board member.

School board members voted unanimously in favor of Hurley, who was one of six district residents who applied for the position.

Hurley replaces Jack Stubbs, who resigned last month because he is moving out of the district.

Hurley, a 1980 Waynesville High School graduate and parent of two Waynesville graduates, attended Wright State University and works for R.A. Rhoads Inc. Custom Homes in Dayton. He has been an active member of the Waynesville Athletic Boosters since 2005.

Hurley previously served for eight years on the Waynesville school board and for seven years on the Warren County Career Center school board. He lost a reelection bid in November 2007.

Hurley said he plans to serve out the remaining term of the position, which ends in December 2011, but will not run for reelection. He said he enjoyed his previous service on the boards and applied for the position because of his experience.

“I will try to make the best decisions on behalf of the students and taxpayers of this district,” he said.

In a prepared statement, Superintendent Pat Dubbs cited Hurley’s experience as a leader: “He knows what it means to be a part of the leadership team and how the decision making process should work.”
