According to Chief Steve Agenbroad with the Clearcreek Twp. Fire District, residents at the home on Westchester Court say they plugged in remote control cars in the attached garage before going to bed around 11 p.m. and a few hours later were awoken by smoke detectors and heavy fire coming from the garage.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames, which were contained to the garage area and caused minimal damage to the house.

Though the fire’s start remains under investigation, Chief Agenbroad said it appears the fire originated in the area where the cars were plugged in and it’s possible the battery ignited the flames.

The residents were able to escape the home unharmed and will be displaced for the night due to the heavy smoke that spread throughout the house.

RedCross was not called to aid the residents with their displacement.
