Hamilton sends one of its best resources to Dayton tornado relief effort: water

Neighbors in the greater Dayton area were in need after the devastating Memorial Day tornado outbreak and Hamilton quickly responded with one if its most well-known resources: water.

On Tuesday, 100 cases — all the city had in storage — of Hamilton bottled water was delivered to Dayton, which remains under a boil advisory.

Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley tweeted the Hamilton water was being distributed at a Stanley Avenue firehouse.

“Mayor Moeller and the city council requested whatever immediate relief we could provide to greater Dayton, to do it expeditiously,” said Hamilton City Manager Joshua Smith. “Our bottled water was an easy item to assist. Our infrastructure group is determining other ways they can provide assistance if requested.”

The water in bright blue bottles has been named some of the best-tasting in the world. A modest amount is bottled annually, usually for celebrations and donations, according to Jim Logan, Hamilton’s executive director of infrastructure.

The city donated its entire on-hand supply to Dayton and are now working to make more, Logan said.

“That is what we do every day, provide clean water. They are under a boil advisory and were in need. We could help,” Logan said.
