Hamilton boy, 10, lands national acting gig

A young Hamilton resident is an entertainer who will soon be making a national splash.

Camren Conerly, a 10-year-old entertainer, has released two original songs and music videos and just landed a national commercial to add to his growing talent resume.

Conerly, who performs under the stage name Camo, has been dancing since he could first walk, his mother said.

“We first noticed at around age 3 that he was very advanced for his age as far as dancing goes,” Amber Conerly said of her son, a student at Bridgeport Elementary. “By age 4 he had completely taught himself by watching Michael Jackson and Chris Brown on YouTube.”

Two years ago, Conerly’s family decided to find an agent for the young boy’s pursuit of professional entertainment work.

That led to a callback audition for a role in Disney’s “Wrinkle in Time,” which recently hit theaters.

“He did not get the role, but he was so close,” Amber Conerly said. “That being his first major audition and the feedback he received made us dive into really focusing on his acting career.”

Conerly landed a national commercial for Stainmaster Carpet that wrapped up filming last month.

“We are waiting on the release any moment. The commercial was a two-day project filmed in Tennessee,” Amber Conerly said. “He was recently signed with Divine Talent Agency out of Atlanta, who are working with him on his music, modeling and acting career.”

Conerly’s music is also gaining a strong following on social media.

He has two music videos out currently and three more songs that should be released by the end of this month. His latest song, “Go Off,” has more than 40,000 views on Facebook.

“His dad put him in the studio with an original song that they wrote together and he did great,” Amber Conerly said.

But it’s the local support that Conerly and his family say has been “amazing.”

“I’m proud of what I have accomplished so far and grateful for all the love and support from my family and friends,” Conerly said. “I can’t wait to make people happy with the things I will be doing in the future.”

Even his teachers are calling him Camo, his mom said.

Conerly may have to start sharing the spotlight soon. His 7-year-old sister, Kaydi, is also pursuing acting.

“We are searching for an agent for her now,” Amber Conerly said.
