The Dan Howell Memorial Soap Box Derbies in Butler County were sponsored by the Hamilton-Fairfield Jaycees and the Journal-News.

Boys and girls ages 10 to 15 would complete for prizes and a chance to go on to represent the area in the state competition.

The race day started with a queen’s parade and a series of celebrity races with local residents. The cars driven by the entrants were sponsored by businesses in the Hamilton and Fairfield area.
