Franklin road closes after semi hits train overpass

Franklin-Trenton Road is closed between Martz-Paulin Road and Hobart Avenue in Franklin after a semi tractor trailer hauling shingles hit a train overpass.

A tow truck is on scene. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Justin Riley was inside his home nearby and heard a loud collision.

“I thought it was a bridge collapse or a train wreck,” he said. “I came outside and it was a semi broke completely in half.”

The noise shook the pictures on the walls of his home, he said.

Riley, who has lived near the train overpass for a few months, said he has seen about three other semis hit the overpass.

“But nothing has ever made it all the way through,” he said. “(The semis) have either (hit the top of the truck) and had to back up or they’ve turned around.”

“This one was by far the craziest one I’ve seen,” he said.

There are several signs warning drivers of the overpass and its height limits, according to Riley.
