Of those 17, one person, who is only identified as being between the ages of 16 and 59, is listed for Butler County.
It is the first such case reported in the county.
The Journal-News left messages at the Butler County Health Department seeking more information.
According to state health officials, the median age of the 17 hospital patients is 20 and there are six females and 11 males in the group.
State officials also announced they are investigating 22 other cases of Ohioans being hospitalized for health complications from vaping.
Vaping has jumped into the national spotlight recent as Michigan and New York have banned vaping, citing increasing documentation of users suffering lung and other significant health problems from inhaling the nicotine inhalant devices growing in popularity in recent years.
Locally, Butler County schools have upped their battles against student vaping and continue to crack down on the nicotine deliver devices on their school campuses.
