A Hamilton firefighter on the way to work Wednesday called 911 from an Eaton Avenue construction site to report a worker’s death.

The man called shortly before 7 a.m. from in front of Wilson Middle School in the 800 block of Eaton Avenue saying one of the construction workers was run over by a work truck.

“It is an obvious death,” he said.

A female coworker, frantic and crying, told the dispatcher that a dump truck backed over a worker.

“I don’t think he is alive,” she told the dispatcher.

She said they work for John R. Jurgensen Company.

Hamilton police said Wednesday morning a construction worker was hit by a construction vehicle and was killed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was on the scene investigating.

Eaton Avenue was closed much of the day between Mark Avenue and Haldimand Avenue due to the crash investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Police and the coroner’s office did not release the identify of the victim on Wednesday, pending notification of next of kin.

An OSHA spokesperson confirmed an investigation is ongoing, but said no further information will be available until the investigation is completed, which could take six months.
