Shorter turned himself in to Parma police that evening saying he had committed a crime.
Nicholas Shorter’s body was found with stab wounds to the chest in the trunk of his father’s car parked outside the police station.
The child was pronounced dead at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the child’s cause of death.
Detectives are currently investigating the events leading up to the infant’s death.
Shorter faces one count of aggravated murder for the killing of his son.
An initial court appearance for Shorter has not yet been scheduled.

A 41-year-old Parma man is expected to be charged in the death of his 18-month-old son, whose body was found in the trunk of the man's car.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the child as Nicholas Lawrence Shorter, Cleveland area media have reported.
The father's name has not been released.
According to media reports, the child's father walked in to the Parma Police Station about 9 p.m. Saturday and told an officer at the front desk that he wanted to turn himself in for a crime.

Officers noticed cuts on both the man's arms, wounds that were later determined to be self-inflicted.
Police searched the car, which was parked in the visitor's lot at the police station, and found the child in the trunk -- unresponsive.
The child was taken to University Hospitals Parma Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Monday night, according to media reports, the father remained in MetroHealth Medical Center under police guard.
He is expected to be booked in the Parma City Jail once he is released.
