Fairfield hires new assistant city manager

A Blue Ash official has been hired as the city’s next assistant city manager.

Greg Preece, who has been a human resources officer for Blue Ash since January 2014 starts his new job Monday, according to Fairfield City Manager Mark Wendling.

Preece was chosen from 80 candidates and will make $105,000 a year as assistant city manager, according to Wendling.

“Greg had a really strong background as the human resources officer and he was an assistant fire chief for Blue Ash. He really gets the big picture and would like to be a city manager one day,” Wendling said.

Preece will handle day-to-day tasks, such as managing information technology, and he will be asked to ramp up the city’s presence on social media, Wendling said.

“Everyone I’ve met so far has been professional, and I’m anxious to get in with all the other professionals here in Fairfield,” Preece said.

Wendling had been the assistant city manager since 2011, but got the top job when former City Manager Art Pizzano retired in May after 17 years.
