2 Eaton businesses donate $100K to school project

Residents and businesses in Eaton are rallying behind a project to build a new school and athletic facilities.

The latest effort to support the Eaton Community Schools Athletic, Arts and Wellness Fund, which is part of the St. Clair Foundation, involves a $100,000 donation from two Eaton-based businesses: Eaton National Bank and the Henny Penny Foundation.

The Henny Penny Corporation matched Eaton National’s donation of $50,000.

“It’s been exciting as far as how our community has stepped up to support our kids and our community,” said Superintendent Brad Neavin. “We have donations everywhere from $10 to folks who are making donations well over a million dollars.”

Construction started last week on the project, which includes a new football, soccer and track and field complex. The project also involves building locker rooms, classroom space and a modern concession stand.

Brian Shera, CEO of Eaton National Bank, said this was an opportunity to invest back into the community as the bank celebrates its 165th year.

“I think it’s been a long time coming and it will be a first rate facility in Southwest Ohio,” Shera said.

Henny Penny has pledged to continue matching any contributions to the fund, according to Steve Cobb, CEO of Henny Penny Corp, which has been in business for 55 years.

“We’re a home grown company here in Preble County. We’ve been in business here for 55 years. So it’s important for us to step up and be a part of this project,” Cobb said.

The donation will not only be used to support the new athletic facilities, but also the building of a new middle school that is slated to open next school year.
