Driver strikes baby stroller at intersection

OXFORD — Lindsay Swift was preparing to push a stroller carrying her 1-year-old daughter Makayla across the intersection of Chestnut and Locust streets when she “felt like somebody punched me in the stomach.”

A sedan driven by an unidentified Miami University sophomore collided hit her stroller in the midst of executing a right turn onto Chestnut, Swift said.

“I was just putting the stroller down the little crosswalk and the next thing I knew he hit us,” Swift said. “He was looking the other way and apparently didn’t see me coming across the street.”

Oxford police responded to the scene but did not charge the student, according to dispatchers.

Swift said her Dreamer Design jogging stroller was banged up by the crash, but the driver agreed to purchase her a new one.

“I just told him, ‘A lot of times stuff like this happens as just a way of saying “Be extra careful,” sort of like a warning to you,” Swift said.

Swift said neither she nor Makayla suffered any injuries, though she “felt like throwing up” following the accident.
