Reco Scott, 32, “was observed jumping from a cabin balcony” at 4:53 a.m. Friday, Carnival Cruise Line spokeswoman Jennifer de la Cruz said in a statement.

The Carnival Liberty cruise ship was about 10 miles northwest of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. The ship, which departed from Port Canaveral, Florida, was en route to Nassau, de la Cruz said.

“The ship’s command immediately turned the vessel around and began search procedures,” she said.

Scott reportedly married his wife, Angelijica Scott, last year, and the two recently renewed their vows. The couple was celebrating the renewal.

The Coast Guard is using a helicopter and a ship in the search for Scott, whose family has been notified of the situation.

“We extend our thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” de la Cruz said.
