Counterfeit makeup, contacts could cause an extra scare this Halloween

Ghosts, zombies and monsters aren’t the only frights you may encounter this Halloween, the makeup you use and the creepy contacts you wear could be a health hazard.

Counterfeit cosmetics and contact lenses can be contaminated with lead, bacteria or other toxins, according to federal authorities.

Investigators with ICE, Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies are expected to announce a major anti-counterfeiting operation today, according to CBS-affiliate WLTX.

The FDA warns counterfeit contacts and lenses not approved by the FDA could cause allergic reactions, infections and even blindness.
