Shahid Smalls, 22, is accused of aggravated assault after police said he shot a guard last month at the Fairington Road Walmart in Lithonia. He had already been barred from the Walmart at 8424 Mall Parkway in Lithonia, court records show.

Smalls was ordered not to return to the Mall Parkway store after he was convicted of shoplifting. Police said he chose to lift 12 DVDs from the Fairington Road store on March 31, leading to a confrontation with the guard.

The shooting, the second in five months at the Fairington Road store, left the worker with a foot injury. He had to have surgery but was recovering well a few days later, according to WSB-TV.

Police released video of the incident to media and asked for the public's help identifying the shooter.

Authorities didn’t say how they found Smalls.
