Sponsored by The Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton and coordinated with local school districts, the event helps students learn more about careers, jobs and college opportunities.
Joining AK Steel and Worthington Industries were also Miami University and representatives from the Middletown branch campus of Cincinnati State.
Among the students was Madison High School senior C.J. Castle, who said he was grateful for information event, which featured representatives from each participant ready to answer any questions.
“It was really productive thing the chamber set up. I’m looking for a summer job and connections because I want to go into IT and cyber security,” Castle said.
“You can tell this is targeted toward students and I appreciate that.”
Rick Pearce, president of the chamber, said “we are trying to match students to local opportunities to educational providers.”
“We know what the employers need and we know what educational providers are teaching, we just need to match students with those opportunities, whether it be full time employment after high school or an internship or co-op (job) while in college,” Pearce said.
The Towne Mall event is the latest of series of outreach programs by the chamber to better connect students from Middletown and other area districts with area companies.
The multiple efforts aren’t just for teens, said Pearce.
“It is also important for our local educators to become acquainted with our area businesses so they can guide their students through the maze of career options,” he said.
Middletown High School sophomore Quintin Tisdale toured each of the more than two dozen information booths at the event and said “it’s good for finding jobs because everything is right here and all around me. Everything is in one place.”
His mother, Nancy Gates, said of the chamber event “I appreciate it 100 percent.”
“The have things and resources out here we can find,” she said.
