A Fairfield High School sophomore died early Thursday morning after a long illness, according to the district.
Fairfield posted a statement and photo on the Butler County school system’s Facebook page about the passing of Mason Blanchard, who battled cancer.
They also announced students will have access to grief counselors today and Friday.
“We are saddened to share the following news with you. Mason Blanchard, a sophomore at Fairfield High School, lost his battle with cancer early this morning,” said district officials.
“His kind spirit and drive to fight on inspired many of his classmates.
“The high school will open the Community Room on Friday, May 24 beginning at 9 a.m. or anyone in need of grief counseling. Counselors are also available at the high school today to help students and staff.”
