In a unique fundraising event, the Hamilton Rotary Club is hosting a lively basketball game of local celebrities against the traveling Harlem Ambassadors.

The rotary club is hosting this one-time event at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, inside the gym at Hamilton High School, 1165 Eaton Ave. Tickets are $5 at the door or can be purchased in advance at Bethart Printing Solutions at 531 Main St.

The Harlem Ambassadors offer Harlem-style basketball with high-flying slam dunks, ball-handling tricks, comedy routines and the positive message of character building and staying off drugs.

Steve Schnabl, board secretary for Hamilton Rotary, said the first $2,000 raised will be split between Hamilton High School and Badin High School to support their character education programs.

“It’s comedy and entertainment mixed with basketball,” Schnabl said. “It’s a great family program with an excellent message that ties into the character education programs at local high schools.”

Players for the “Rotary Rebounders” — under the leadership of coach Rich Bethart, president of Hamilton rotary — will include Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, Hamilton City Manager Joshua Smith, Hamilton Mayor Pat Moeller, Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser, Hamilton school board members Steve Isgro and Scott Kruger, along with a host of other locals from Hamilton High and Badin.

Additional funds raised will support service programs offered by Hamilton Rotary, including scholarships and grants to community-based children services. The service organization has been in Hamilton since 1919.

The event will also include refreshments, Harlem Ambassadors gear for sale, a drawing for the game ball and an autograph session with the Harlem Ambassadors.
