Frigid temperatures in Iowa allow gas pump to remain suspended in air

How cold was it in Iowa this week? Frigid enough for a gas station pump handle to be suspended in the air because it was frozen, KELO reported.

The television station tweeted a photo of the pump, which appeared to be standing upright on its own.

It was taken Wednesday night at a gas station in Ocheyedan, Iowa.

"There's something wrong in this picture," KELO meteorologist Brian Karstens tweeted. "I guess extreme cold can do some funny things!"

Ocheyedan, part of the record low temperatures that have hit the Midwest this week, had a “warmer” reading early Friday -- while the temperature read just slightly above zero degrees early Friday, the high is expected to hit 37 by the afternoon.
