Former Middie selected in first round of NBA’s G League draft

A former Middletown High School standout was selected today in the first round of the NBA’s G League Draft, according to the league.

Vince Edwards, who played at Middletown and Purdue University, was selected 13th by Oklahoma City.

Jarron Cumberland, who starred at the University of Cincinnati, was picked 12th overall.

The 17 NBA G League teams will play in Orlando beginning next month.

Edwards, 24, scored 1,628 points in high school, second only to the 2,460 scored by Jerry Lucas.

At Purdue, Edwards was named to the Big Ten third-team as a junior when he averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds and second-team as a senior when he averaged 14.6 points, 7.4 rebounds.

He was drafted 52nd overall by the Utah Jazz in the second round of the NBA draft, then traded to the Houston Rockets. He has played professionally for the Rockets, Oklahoma City Blue and Canton Charge.
