She is not fond of snakes, but a Florida woman was a hero to a reptile last week.
Rosa Fond, of Brooksville, rescued a snake that got its head stuck in a beer can on the side of the road, WFLA reported.
"I couldn't let her die. I know in this area, if someone gets a hold of that, they will probably torture the animal," Fond, who owns Humans and Animals United Rescue, told the television station..
Fond saw the snake while driving through Brooksville. She began recording on her cellphone and used a stick to try to free the black racer snake, WTVT reported. Her two small dogs looked on as interested observers, the television station reported.
"I gotta save a snake! Oh God, I don't know how I'm going to do this!" Fond could be heard in the video.
After breaking her nail, and several minutes of poking the snake, Fond was able to free the reptile from the beer can, WFLA reported.
"How on earth did I get the courage to do this I have no idea! She even wrapped herself on my arm twice!" Fond wrote on Facebook. "It was a battle but I saved her. All for the sake of the animals.
Fond kept the can as a souvenir. She is still scared of snakes, though.
"I look at them, I will see them, but I don't like touching them," Fond told WFLA.
