Stephanie Gabbard allegedly stabbed her boyfriend, David Mitchell, to death, according to police and the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
FIRST REPORT: Fairfield woman charged with murder after boyfriend found dead
Gabbard, 33, is in the Butler County Jail charged with murder after police on Tuesday found Mitchell dead in their Fairfield apartment at 5419 Eastgate Drive.
Mitchell died of a stab wound and his death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
Police were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday for a well-being check requested by a friend of the 33-year-old Gabbard. He told the dispatcher, “It’s not really life-threatening right now, but it could be.”
Gabbard was eventually arrested “in connection” with Mitchell’s death, according to police, and was charged with murder on Wednesday.

Police released the 911 call made by Gabbard’s friend, who said the woman called him crying and was “hysterical.” He also told the dispatcher the woman has “been in and out of abusive relationships.”
Mitchell and Gabbard had lived in the apartment together and were in a relationship, police said.

Police said there had been no previous calls for service at the apartment involving Gabbard and Mitchell.

According to court records in Hamilton County and Butler County, Gabbard has previously been charged and convicted of various offenses, including theft. She was found guilty in September 2017 on a burglary/trespass charge in Hamilton County and was found guilty in December 2007 on a theft charge in Fairfield.
Gabbard is being held in the Butler County Jail on a $1 million bond after being arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Fairfield Municipal Court, according to court and jail records. Attorney Tina Barrett was appointed to represent Gabbard by Fairfield Municipal Court Judge Joyce Campbell. Gabbard is next scheduled to appear on Sept. 13 in Fairfield Municipal Court.
