West Chester man indicted for child sex crimes

A West Chester Twp. resident who is also the finance director in Miami Twp. is accused of multiple felony counts of sex crimes involving a person who is younger than 13 years old.

Harry D. Steger has been charged in Butler County Common Pleas Court with seven counts of gross sexual imposition dating back more than a year, records show.

A Butler County grand jury indicted Steger, of Allendale Drive in West Chester Twp., on all seven counts, court records show. The indictment states that from May 1, 2014, to May 18, 2015, Steger was involved in sex acts involving pre-teens.

Steger was arraigned in Butler County court on Thursday, records show. The case is set for pretrial Sept. 17 and has been assigned to Judge Keith Spaeth.

Miami Twp. trustees have scheduled a special meeting tonight at which they are set to hold an executive session to discuss personnel matters.

Steger joined the township after former Finance Director Joe Fowler retired in 2013. Township officials had earlier determined pornography was being viewed and downloaded on Fowler’s work computer.
