Police: Jail drugs hidden in buttocks, book

Two inmates in the Middletown City Jail were recently charged with drug offenses after drugs were found in cells.

Joshua Alsip, 26, of Middletown, was charged with drug abuse/heroin and conveyance of drugs into a detention facility, according to a police report.

Alsip allegedly hid about .53 grams of heroin in his buttocks and told police he did so because he needed help getting through his “jail stay due to withdrawals,” the report read.

Matt Taylor, 33, of Middletown, was charged with possession of heroin.

A corrections officer, who suspected drugs were in the cell, found heroin hidden inside a book. She became suspicious of the book’s contents after Taylor asked if he could keep it because he liked looking at the pictures of the dogs.

Middletown Municipal Court Judge James Sherron bound Taylor’s case to a Butler County Grand Jury on Monday.

Alsip plead guilty to reduced charges of attempted drug abuse and attempted conveyance of drugs into a detention facility. He was sentenced to 180 jails with 150 suspended and he was credited with nine days served, according to court records.
