The Dayton community is experiencing just about every emotion in the wake of last weekend’s tragic shootings.
The road to healing will be a journey, and the community is taking steps big and small to pave the way.
There will be a free Trauma Relief and Healing Workshop from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 at The Brightside Music & Event Venue in downtown Dayton.
Organizers emphasized that this event is for everyone.
“Everyone deals with these things differently, whether you’re holed up at home depressed or you get in ‘go, go, go mode’— self care is so important right now,” said Libby Ballengee, co-organizer of the Workshop.
Ballengee, owner of Venus Child Productions, and Anjali Brannon, owner of Ayurveda Natural Health Center in Beavercreek, put together this event to help their community work through the pain. Brannon, who has studied and is an expert in traumatic resolution, put together a similar workshop earlier this summer following the Memorial Day Tornadoes.
Venus Child Productions, Ayurveda, VeganDayton, Illuminate Dayton, Janae Christopher, Heartfulness Dayton and The Brightside are all collaborating to offer a day of free therapeutic sessions and community togetherness.
Donations will be accepted that will be split between The Dayton Foundation Tragedy Fund and Moms Demand Action.
The workshop’s schedule includes the following free sessions:
• 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. — Somatic Trauma Resolution with Anjali Brannon from Ayurveda Natural Health Center
• 2:30 - 3.30 p.m. — Guided Relaxation and Meditation with Julie Bowen from Heartfulness Dayton
• 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. — Yoga with BeTrice Casada
• 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. — Pranic Healing with Felisha Beverly
There will be snacks provided by VeganDayton, mini sessions throughout the event, including Thai Yoga and Swedish Massage, Pranic Healing, Somatic Trauma Resolution, Meditation and more.
