Wendy Williams is taking a full three-week hiatus after all.
The host announced on Tuesday that she would be back on her show, which films live out of New York, on March 19. In the meantime, Us Weekly reported, Jerry O’Connell will guest host the show next week.
It is the first time in the show’s history that a guest host will fill in for Williams.
“Jerry has been such a good friend to me and to the show,” Williams said in a statement to Us Weekly.“We’re happy to welcome him as a guest host while I’m out getting much-needed rest.”
“I’m excited to help out and fill in,” O’Connell said in a statement. “We all know nobody can fill the purple chair like Wendy, but I am honored to sit with her co-hosts and to bring the many fans all the Hot Topics they love. Like Wendy tells us, ‘I am am going to Say It Like I Mean It.’”
Williams, 53, also announced her return date and O’Connell’s guest-hosting stint on Twitter.
“Hey @MrJerryOC thanks for being my guest host while I'm out getting some much needed rest,” the tweet read. “See you all Monday, March 19th! XOX, Wendy.”
On Feb. 21, Williams announced she would take some time away from her talk show.
“Wendy is a true champion and has never missed a day of work. But her health and well-being must be put before all else,” a show representative told People Feb. 21. “Wendy has been openly dealing with her Graves’ disease for many years, in addition to hyperthyroidism. Yesterday, Wendy’s doctor prescribed a necessary three weeks of rest to get her levels and medication in sync.”
At the time, repeat episodes were planned to air during Williams’ three weeks off.
Williams has been vocal about her struggle with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism. When she announced her hiatus on her show, she encouraged women to look after their health.
“What I want to say to women, more than men, is stop putting everyone first, because if we’re not good, they’re not good,” Williams said.
