Shoppers will now have more convenient access to reusable bags at Walmart stores.
For the first time, check out carousels at Walmart stores will feature reusable bags made from post-consumer recycled content. The bags will begin rolling out for purchase at stores next month, according to a statement.
The initiative is one of several at Walmart to reduce plastic waste. It also plans to make all of its private brand packaging 100 percent recyclable or reusable by 2025, according to the release.

Other stores have also announced plans to reduce plastic waste, including Kroger, which plans to eliminate single-use plastic bags by 2025.
An estimated 100 billion single-use bags are thrown away every year in the United States. Less than 5 percent are recycled, according to the statement from Kroger.
