JUST IN: New dual-branded Marriott hotel planned outside local mall

A new dual-branded, 160-room hotel is in the works to fill part of the parking lot at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

The four-story hotel will fill 2.82 acres of the parking lot outside the former Sears building, where The RoomPlace and Round1 Entertainment are expected to open later this year, according to Beavercreek city records.

The proposed development would include 84 rooms of Fairfield Inn & Suites, an economy chain, and 72 rooms of TownePlace Suites, designed for longer stays, said Beavercreek city planner Randy Burkett. The plan was approved by city council last week, which will likely push the land sale forward.

The property currently owned by the mall is expected to be sold to Ajay Patel, president and CEO of Dayton-based Scarlet & Gray Hospitality, Burkett said. Patel’s company also owns Hampton Inn locations in Springfield and at the Cincinnati Airport, a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Centerville, a Red Roof Inn in Springfield and the new Home2 Suites in Centerville.

“We’re always looking to expand our hotel base. It brings more people in and it offers more opportunities for people to stay,” Burkett said.

It’s another investment in the mall and its surrounding areas, following the development of new outward facing restaurants several years ago and the new furniture store and entertainment concept launching in the former Sears building.

The Dayton Daily News has reached out to Patel and Scarlet & Gray Hospitality for more details.
