Construction on schedule for Monroe auto supply plant

Construction at the new UGN Inc. plant in Monroe is on track toward a early winter opening.

Paul Hemmer Company is constructing the new 232,000 square-foot manufacturing plant located at the business park Park North at Monroe, at 201 Exploration Drive. The new plant is scheduled to be completed by February 2015. The company is already on-track with the project that will enable manufacturing equipment to be moved into the structure this fall.

Mass production is scheduled to start midway through next year.

Earlier this year, UGN announced its plans to build the $50 million manufacturing plant in Monroe. The auto-parts supplier anticipates creating 150 jobs there with a payroll of more than $7 million a year.

UGN produces acoustic, interior trim and thermal management products for automobiles and employs more than 1,500 at its seven facilities in North America. The new plant will meet an increased need for new carpet and under-floor technologies for Japanese automakers, UGN said.

In addition to the UGN project, the Paul Hemmer Company is also nearing completion on another project, a 650,000-square-foot industrial distribution facility at the Park North campus, which is being developed by IDI Gazeley.
