The Dayton Development Coalition’s annual meeting is bringing the city’s business and community leaders together to discuss the region’s progress.
The Dayton Development Coalition and its board of trustees are hosting its annual meeting and 2017 economic review at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. Networking and registration began at 3 p.m., with the main program following at 5 p.m. and a reception at 6 p.m.
The Dayton Development Coalition’s 2017 annual meeting is also featuring a panel that includes an Air Force general as well as a bio-science executive and entrepreneur, among others. The panel includes: U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark Koeniger, commander of the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The wing researches human performance and integration for air, space, and cyberspace needs.
The coalition, an arm of JobsOhio, the state’s private economic development corporation, represents 14 Western Ohio counties.

The CEO of the Community Blood Center/Tissue Services said the company is set to hire 50 this year, which will mean around 630 total employees.

NuVasive’s VP said manufacturing isn’t what it used to be. People need be able to problem solve on their feet and need to be good with advancing technology.

He’s asked to elaborate on what he means when he says their location in Dayton “pays good” and he says Nuvasive pays from around $35,000 to upwards of $100,000.

When asked ‘Why Dayton?’ NuVasive’s VP the spine technology maker looked around the country but Dayton had a manufacturing base, good higher ed network and good local government to work with.

Also he said Dayton is fairly protected from natural disasters that can damage businesses. It’s something you might not think of, but a hurricane or other disaster can destroy a company’s investment in a blink.
